Benefits of Renewable Energy

The Hounsfield Wind Farm and Upstate Power Transmission Line will:

• Meet the energy needs of approximately 100,000 households
• Prevent one million tons of CO2 from being released
• Conserve 17 billion gallons of fresh water per year in comparison to other power plants
• Enhance national security by reducing the need to protect foreign oil supplies
• Sustain the national economy by keeping energy dollars at home rather than spending dollars abroad
• Help New York State meet its goal of increasing its use of renewable energy to 25% by 2013
• Further federal energy initiatives advanced in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007
